Jonathan Davenport earned $75,000 at Florence

It has been a banner season so far in 2022 for Jonathan Davenport as he has won big race after big race. That trend continued on Saturday night in the Lucas Oil Late Model Dirt Series-sanctioned North-South 100 at the Florence Speedway.

Feature Re-cap: A significant moment occurred immediately after the race started in Madden’s car bounced hard multiple times in turns three and four then came to a stop against the outside wall to bring out a caution.

Once the race officially got underway, it was Davenport who took the early advantage over McDowell, Hughes, Overton and Pierce. Hughes moved by McDowell on lap 2 for the second position while Pierce took fourth away from Overton on the third circuit.

McDowell moved back into second when he passed Hughes as Davenport began to slip away from the pack. Early on, the track became bottom dominant with the top-5 following each other as they logged laps. Overton moved around Pierce for fourth on lap 21 with the top-6 pf Davenport, McDowell, Hughes, Overton, Pierce and Dohm tightening in traffic.

Davenport had pulled away as the leaders picked their way through traffic with the race approaching the halfway mark. McDowell began to close in on the leader until a caution on lap 56 for the slowing car of Erb slowed the pace. On the ensuing restart, Overton seized the second position behind Davenport.

O’Neal slowed on lap 63 to bring out another yellow flag.

After what would prove to be the final restart of the night, Davenport got away from his pursuers as the laps clicked away. With the end of the 100 lapper approaching, Overton began to close back in. But in the end, Davenport was too strong as he ultimately sailed under the checkered flag to claim the victory.
