The Crate Late Model division took to the track on Thursday night at Crossville Speedway in support of the Schaeffer’s Oil Southern Nationals event. Local hero Jesse Lowe continued his winning ways on his home track after taking the lead early on then outrunning the pack to the checkered flag.
Jesse Lowe was fastest in qualifying as he turned a lap in 13.230 seconds around the third-mile track to better the efforts of Arville Pittman, Colton Proffitt, William Blankenship, Zach Shannon, Anthony Conley, Jeremy Holtzclaw and Drew Deaver.
Pittman went to the early lead in the 25-lap feature ahead of Lowe, Blankenship, Proffitt and Conley. By the end of the second lap, Pittman and Lowe had begun to separate themselves from their pursuers in an attempt to settle the night’s business among the two of them.
Lowe maintained pressure on the lead car of Pittman, ducking low in the turns and hounding the No. 76 on the straightaways until the No. 5J machine was finally able to slip by for the lead on lap 8.
Two circuits later, Lowe was pulling away from the competition as Pittman, Blankenship and Proffitt engaged in a tight battle for positions 2-4. Even in the midst of slower traffic Lowe was able to maintain a relatively comfortable advantage over the fight for position behind him.
On lap 19 the car of Blankenship got by Pittman for the runner-up spot. Eventually, Proffitt and Conley would also move around the early race leader.
But in the end it was Lowe who sailed under the checkered flag for the win.
