As part of the J.T. Kerr Memorial event the 411 Motor Speedway hosted racing in the Sportsman Late Model class on Saturday evening. Jed Emert scored a popular victory in front of a big crowd as he went away from the Seymour, Tenn. track with an $800 payout when all was said and done.
Emert earned the pole position for the feature when he led the way in qualifying by turning a lap in 15.117 seconds around the 3/8 mile clay oval. Jaylon Shannon would flank Emert on the starting grid with Bradley Lewelling, Zach Sise, Jake Whitehead, Brad Seagle, Clay Coughlan, Brandon James, Zach Shannon and Joshua Sneed lining up behind the front row starters.
Emert darted to the early lead as the 20-lap feature took the green flag with Shannon, Sise, Lewelling and Seagle in his wake. However, a caution on lap 2 for the spinning car of Sise would slow the pace and align the field for a restart.
On that lap 2 restart it would be Lewelling who would assert himself as he moved by Shannon to assume the second position while Seagle also moved forward by passing Shannon to take third. One lap later Zach Shannon also passed by the fading Jaylon Shannon to move into the fourth spot.
Troubles continued for Jaylon Shannon when, on a lap 4 restart from a caution period, he spun and collected several other machines in the process. It would prove to be the end of the night for the No. 22 car.
Cautions continued to plague the race and the Shannons. A lap 7 restart saw Zach Shannon go for a spin while racing for the third spot with Seagle.
Once the race experienced green flag conditions for consecutive laps it was Emert who controlled the pace as he pulled away from the pack leaving Lewelling, Seagle, Coughlan, Whitehead and the recovering Sise to do battle behind him.
Emert eventually cruised under the checkered flag to score the win.
