Jason Welshan’s car number is 29. And that is also the number of feature wins he has compiled so far this season in a variety of classes on a variety of tracks around east Tennessee.
On Saturday night, the Maryville, Tenn. driver made his way to the 411 Motor Speedway to compete in the $1,000-to-win Limited Late Model event on the Mitch and Tanya McCarter owned facility. And it would be in that class that he would earn the victory that matches that on his door panel.
Welshan grabbed the pole position for the main event when he set fast time in qualifying with a lap of 13.714 seconds. He was followed by Greg Martin, Jason Cardwell, Danny Yoder and Jason Manley.
There were no heat races as the eight car field was set entirely by time-trials.
Welshan went immediately to the lead at the start of the 25-lap feature with Martin, Cardwell and Manley trailing. A couple of early cautions kept Welshan in check and created the opportunity for some tight racing within the top-5.
However, once the race ran green for a few consecutive laps Welshan pulled away from his pursuers. Another yellow flag just after the midway point offered the competition a glimmer of hope, but Welshan again drove away at full speed.
At the finish, it was Jason Welshan winning over Greg Martin, Jason Cardwell, Danny Yoder and Johnny Ridings.
