Along with the $10,000-to-win Southern Nationals Bonus Series race for Super Late Model machines, the Cleveland Speedway contested a Limited Late Model feature as part of its Gobbler event. Alabama’s Jason Hiett followed up last weekend’s win in that class at Boyd’s Speedway with a $2,000 payday on Saturday night in Cleveland, Tenn.
Ethan Hunter paced the 22 car field in qualifying on Friday night when he posted a lap of 14.296 seconds around the third-mile clay oval. Jason Manley and Lamar Scoggins also earned pole position starting spots for their respective heat races.
Hiett won the pole for the main event when he won the first heat race on Friday night. Jesse Lowe and Dakotah Knuckles were also preliminary race winners on Friday evening.
It proved to be a difficult task getting the 40-lap feature started with two attempts waved off when track officials didn’t like the field’s alignment at the waving of the green flag followed by another wave off when a caution for a spin was displayed before a full lap was completed.
Once the race got underway, Hiett wen immediately to the lead with Lowe, Knuckles, Hunter and Jason Manley in tow. The lead car quickly built a cushion over his pursuers while Knuckles challenged Lowe for the runner-up spot.
Multiple caution flags kept the field in check during the first half of the event. Hiett continued to lead whenever the field was under green flag conditions with the top-10 drivers evenly spaced around the track.
A lap 29 caution proved to be a pivotal one in terms of the running order of the top portion of the field. The second running Lowe slowed on track and ultimately was firced to retire from the event.
From that point, Jason Hiett outran the pack to the checkered flag to beat out Dakotah Knuckles, Jason Manley, Tod Hernandez, Ethan Hunter, Bobby Mays and Ruben Mayfield.
