Iron-Man Series bound for Ponderosa, Smoky Mountain this weekend

SOMERSET, KENTUCKY (August 2, 2020) – The Schaeffer’s Oil Iron-Man Championship Late Model Series presented by DirtonDirt.com will return to action with a doubleheader weekend of racing action at Ponderosa Speedway in Junction City, KY on Friday August 7 for the 22nd Annual Pete Abell Memorial paying $4,000-to win-and at Smoky Mountain Speedway in Maryville, TN on Saturday August 8 for the 16th Annual Iron-Man Classic paying $5,000-to-win. 

Ponderosa Speedway will kick off the weekend on Friday August 7 with the 22nd Annual Pete Abell Memorial event that will feature the Schaeffer’s Oil Iron-Man Late Model Series competitors in a full program of practice, time trials, heats, consolation races, and the $4,000-to-win Pete Abell Memorial main event.  Also, in competition at Ponderosa Speedway for the Pete Abell Memorial event on Friday August 7 will be the track’s Crate Late Model, Open Wheel Modified, Super Stock, Four Cylinder & Hobby Stock divisions. 

Smoky Mountain Speedway will conclude the weekend on Saturday August 8 with the 16th Annual Iron-Man Classic event that will see the Schaeffer’s Oil Iron-Man Late Model Series in a full program of practice, time trials, last chance heats, and the $5,000-to-win Iron-Man Classic feature contest.  Joining the Super Late Models in action at Smoky Mountain Speedway for the Iron-Man Classic event on Saturday August 8 will be the track’s Limited Late Model, Sportsman Late Model, and Front Wheel Drive divisions. 

Activities for the Friday August 7 Pete Abell Memorial event at Ponderosa Speedway will see the pit area open at 3:00 p.m., with the general admission area set to open at 4:00 p.m.  The driver’s meeting will take place at 7:00 p.m., with practice laps set to get underway at 7:15 p.m.  Ticket prices at Ponderosa Speedway on Friday August 7 in the general admission area will be $20 for adults, while a pit pass will be $40.

Activities for the Saturday August 8 Iron-Man Classic event at Smoky Mountain Speedway will see the pit area open at 2:00 p.m., while the general admission area and tier parking area will open at 3:00 p.m.  The driver’s meeting will be at 6:30 p.m., with practice laps set to begin at 7:00 p.m.  Ticket prices at Smoky Mountain Speedway on Saturday August 8 in the general admission area will be $20 (children ages 11 and under free), tier parking will be $25 (children ages 11 and under free), and a pit pass will be $35 (children ages 11 and under $15).

The Schaeffer’s Oil Iron-Man Championship Late Model Series presented by DirtonDirt.com will sanction the Super Late Model portion of both events.  The tire rule for both events will be as follows: Hoosier 1350 and 1600; American Racer 48 and 56. The entry fee each night is $100.  Any driver not making the starting field of 22 cars will receive $50 tow money. The series droop rule is in effect both nights.
