The World of Outlaws Morton Buildings Late Model Series contested its second of a four-race weekend on Friday night at the Williams Grove Speedway. When all was said and done, it was Gregg Satterlee who claimed the victory at the historic track located in Mechanicsburg, Pennsylvania. The Rocket Chassis driver from Indiana, Pennsylvania earned $10,000 for his efforts in a race aired live by DirtVision.com.
A total of 27 cars were signed in for competition.
Chris Madden was fastest in qualifying by posting a lap of 19.550 seconds around the half-mile clay oval beating out Max Blair, Brandon Sheppard, Kyle Hardy, Kyle Larson, Gregg Satterlee, Shaun Jones and Tyler Bruening.
Chris Madden was flagged as the winner in the first heat race of the night over Kyle Hardy, Ricky Weiss, Dan Stone, Matt Cosner and Shaun Jones.
Max Blair got the win in the second heat ahead of Kyle Larson, Tyler Bruening, Kyle Lee, Dale Hollidge and Kyle Strickler.
Brandon Sheppard topped Gregg Satterlee, Rick Eckert, Ryan Gustin, Dylan Yoder and Brent Larson in the third and final heat race of the night.
Boom Briggs outran Kenny Moreland, Mike Lupfer and Ross Robinson in the lone Last Chance Showdown race of the night.
The WoO Late Models redraw placed Max Blair on the pole with Gregg Satterlee, Brandon Sheppard, Chris Madden, Kyle Hardy and Kyle Larson lining up in order at the start of the main event.
When the green flag waved over the 40-lap feature it was Satterlee who charged the the top spot with Blair, Madden, Sheppard and Larson in his tire tracks. Larson made a move to get by Sheppard for the fourth position on the third circuit.
A caution for the slowing car of Dylan Yoder briefly slowed the pace with Satterlee continuing to show the way. On the restart, Madden and Larson managed to get by Blair to assume the third and fourth positions respectively while Sheppard found himself being shuffled back as far as the eighth spot.
Larson the moved in and began to challenge Madden for the runner-up spot just before a lap 10 caution flag waved for debris with Satterlee still being shown as the leader.
Larson’s persistence paid off on lap 12 as he passed by Madden for second. Meanwhile Dan Stone and Kyle Hardy fought for the fourth and fifth spots with Hardy eventually claiming the position. At the halfway mark, the top-5 of Satterlee, Larson, Madden, Hardy and Stone spaced out around the track until slower traffic became a factor.
On lap 24, that slower traffic did become a factor as Satterlee was held up which allowed Larson and Madden to close in. Larson began to apply heavy pressure to the race leader for multiple laps with Satterlee rising to the challenge. However, Larson bobbled on lap 34 opening the door for Madden to assume second.
Larson’s bid to add another Late Model win ended on lap 36 when he slowed to bring out a caution flag.
Satterlee would have to withstand two restarts over the final four laps as top-5 running Dan Stone stopped on track to bring out the final yellow flag of the night on lap 38. But over the final two laps it would be Satterlee who would control the pace and sail under the checkered flag to get the win.
It was the fourth World of Outlaws Morton Buildings Late Model Series win over the course of his career.
