After years of rumors, owners of Golden Mountain Raceway Park said they plan to have the track in Sparta, Tennessee open in 2024. Co-owner Deke Waters said on the Southern Dirt Motorsports podcast the plan to have an open practice in May and racing starting late May or early June. Crate late models and open wheel modifieds were two of the classes mentioned that will be part of the regular offering with some super late model events sprinkled in.
The Waters family bought the 3/8-mile track and adjacent off-road facility in late 2019 with hopes of having racing in 2020. Waters said on the podcast when the Covid pandemic hit in March 2020, plans to open the track were put on hold.
The racetrack was only open for a few seasons in the mid 2000’s before being closed in 2005. The off-roading trails were used for a number of years following the closure of the speedway.
