Just one week after parting ways with veteran driver Billy Ogle, Jr., Blount Motorsports has announced that young Donald McIntosh will pilot their car in this weekend’s Southern All Stars event at Smoky Mountain Speedway. It will be the second time behind the wheel of the BMS Rocket for the Dawsonville, Georgia driver.

“Actually, Donald spent some time in the car on Saturday at Eldora,” said Blount Motorsports owner Larry Garner in a team press release. “We pitted along side the McIntosh team for most of Ray Cook’s races(Spring & Southern Nationals) this year when we were at the same races and we got to know everyone. As we start to look for someone to replace Billy (Ogle) we thought Donald would be a good place to start.”

McIntosh finished 3rd overall in the Spring Nationals standings and followed that with a 5th place result in the final Southern Nationals rundown. He recently earned his first career Super Late Model victory at Georgia’s Dixie Speedway on August 4th of this year.

Garner added that no final decision as to who will pilot his car permanently has been made.

“Although we have a good team with good equipment and a good program, there are some things that will make it hard for a number of drivers to fit in. We basically run 40 to 50 races a year, but we don’t do a lot of traveling. Our schedule is not big enough and doesn’t include the Crown Jewel events so it’s not for someone trying to make a living at it,” Garner explained in the press release. “And in the same breath our schedule is big enough and has enough traveling involved that a racer that is working a full time job and has a family might have a problem with it.

“We know the type of driver we need and we’re confident that we’ll find someone with the talent and the ability who will fit into our program. We are not in a hurry and we plan to take our time looking, but if someone who would fit in walked through the door today that would work too.”
