Donald McIntosh storms to Boyd’s victory lane in return to racing

Donald McIntosh drove a Lamar Scoggins-owned Longhorn to victory

Donald McIntosh has only raced sporadically since stepping away for the sport at the end of the 2021 season. But on Friday night at the Boyd’s Speedway, he used a bold move during an early race restart to drive his Lamar Scoggins-owned No. 32 to the front of the pack and then kept it there for the remainder of the feature in the Valvoline Iron-Man Late Model Series-sanctioned Stars and Stripes 40.

The Longhorn Chassis driver from Dawsonville, GA earned $5,000 for his victory in a race held on the third-mile Ringgold, GA track.

A total of 26 cars were signed in for competition.

Group B- 1. Vic Hill(15.088), 2. Brandon Williams, 3. Mack McCarter, 4. Heath Hindman, 5. Eli Beets, 6. Dillon Tidmore, 7. Ricky Weiss, 8. Will Roland

Heat Race Results: There were no heat races as track and series officials decided to start all 26 car in the main event based on their qualifying times.

Feature Re-cap: Vic Hill outdueled Sam Seawright over the first lap to take the early lead after the 40-lap feature got underway. Just behind the lead duo were McIntosh, Williams and Mason. A lap 3 multi-car mishap involving Iron-Man points leader Chilton along with Taylor, Boles and Croft slowed the action.

On the ensuing restart, McCarter climbed into the top-5 and began immediately look for more opportunities to climb which he found on lap 4 when he passed Williams for fourth. At that point, the top-4 of Hill, Seawright, McIntosh and McCarter separated themselves from the rest of the pack and began to catch the tail of the field.

A lap 14 yellow flag for the slowing Christopher car bunched the field for another restart.

McIntosh seized on the chance when he found himself on the outside of second-running Seawright and just behind leader Hill. When the green flag waved, McIntosh stormed forward to get alongside Hill. The two drivers raced side-by-side for almost a full lap before McIntosh emerged with the spot.

Again, the top-4 began to separate from the field but this time with McIntosh leading the way while Hill, Seawright and McCarter pursued In a race that would not see a yellow flag over its final 26 laps, McIntosh carved his way through slower traffic while keeping enough distance between himself and Hill to avoid a challenge for the lead.

In the end, it would be McIntosh who would come back into the racing seat to claim the victory.
