Jonathan Davenport asserted himself as the overwhelming favorite to win this year’s World 100 by dominating Wednesday’s Castrol Flo Racing Night in America feature at Eldora Speedway.
Davenport drove the same car he won at The Dream in June. The car has been sitting in the shop in Batesville, Arkansas since that dominating performance. It looks as if that car, and Davenport, are up to more dominating runs at Eldora.
Tim McCreadie started the 50-lap feature from the pole. But it was Davenport that took the lead from the outside pole going into turn 1. Despite only one caution in the race, Davenport was never challenged. At one point, Davenport massed over a 9-second lead over second place runner Devin Moran. The battle for second would have been a thriller had it been for the lead instead of far behind Davenport. Moran, Ricky Thornton Jr., and Hudson O’Neal. The trio battled hard for second before the track locked down and everyone rode the same line to end the race.
For Davenport, he will be looking for his 6th World 100 victory on Saturday. Should he get that win, he will tie Billy Moyer for the most wins in the World 100.
“The car can be a little better,” Davenport said in victory lane. “It’s pretty good for a long run car though. I think it will be good once we get to that lap 75-100 mark on Saturday, as long as we keep the fenders on it and keep everything clean.”
That could spell bad news for the competition who were left scratching their heads after another Davenport dominating performance.
Action continues at Eldora on Thursday night with split-field preliminary action and continues on Friday night. Those results will set the field for Saturday’s heat races leading up to the World 100 to cap off the evening.
