Cory Hedgecock powers to Southern All Stars victory at I-75

Cory Hedgecock took the win at I-75

Cory Hedgecock is always tough to beat at I-75 Raceway and Saturday night’s Mother’s Day Mayhem event proved to be no different. The driver of the No. 23 machine blasted to the lead of the race just after the halfway mark of the feature then maintained control for the remainder of the Southern All-Star Dirt Racing series-sanctioned main event.

The Black Diamond Race Cars driver from Loudon, Tennessee earned $5,000 from the 3/8-mile clay oval located in Sweetwater, Tennessee.

A total of 31 cars were signed in for competition.

Feature Re-cap: Multiple drivers, including pole sitter David Crabtree, experienced trouble before the race even completed a single lap. But once the 40-lap feature got underway it McCarter who took the early lead with Hedgecock, Arp, Beets and Moses following in his tire tracks.

There would be several cautions during the race’s first half with McCarter continuing to lead but having to hold back the charging Hedgecock. Arp was forced to the leave the event with mechanical issues early on. A mishap involving third and fourth running Moses and Ford derailed the action on lap 17.

Meanwhile, the fight between McCarter and Hedgecock had been a fierce one when the event was under green flag conditions with with Hedgecock pulling alongside McCarter on the low side then on the high side as he worked feverishly to assume the lead.

Finally on lap 26, Hedgecock’s efforts paid off as he was able to move by the No. 51 machine. After taking the top spot on the leaderboard the No. 23 went largely unchallenged with a lap 33 caution for a tangle involving Henderson and Courtney being the only thing to keep his pursuers within striking distance.
