Casey Roberts and BMS part ways

Driver Casey Roberts is out as the driver of the Blount Motorsports ride. The announcement came via a press release Friday afternoon.

Roberts was tabbed to take over the BMS ride a year ago to replace the departing Donald McIntosh. The Toccoa, Georgia driver closed his race team to drive for BMS. The combination never quite clicked.

In the press release, team owner Larry Garner said the decision was based on the need for a change with the team suffering a disappointing season.

“This year has not been a good year for Blount Motorsports. It seemed like everything that could go wrong did go wrong,” said Larry Garner in the press release. “I am not insinuating that all or any of it was Casey’s fault, but things didn’t work out and I felt that as a team we needed to make a change.”

The team suffered everything from poor performances to mechanical failures to bad luck. Numerous weather cancellations, especially early in the season, hindered any momentum according to the release.

Crew chief David Bryant did not pin any of the issues on Roberts, saying a combination of things made for a rough 2018 season.

“For any number of reasons, including the weather, parts breaking, the truck breaking, help leaving and just plain bad luck 2018 was not a good year for Blount Motorsports and or Casey Roberts,” Bryan said in the release.

Roberts only managed one win, but did win the Southern Nationals championship.

Having conduct a driver search just one year ago, the team has already narrowed their list of a possible replacement driver. No search will take place and the team asks for no calls or texts from drivers looking for consideration.
