Brandon Sheppard, Cade Dillard take WoO preliminary wins at Mississippi Thunder

The World of Outlaws CASE Construction Late Model Series staged twin features on Thursday serving as the first of two preliminary nights of racing leading to the $50,000-to-win finale on Saturday at the Mississippi Thunder Speedway. Brandon Sheppard scored the win in the first feature of the evening while Cade Dillard debuted a new Longhorn Chassis to take the win in the night cap.

Both Longhorn Chassis drivers earned a $5,000 payday from the track located in Fountain City, Wisconsin in races aired live by DirtVision.com.

A total of 43 cars were signed in for competition.

Race 1

Feature Re-cap: At the start of the 25-lap feature it was Timm who went to the lead over Scott, Sheppard, Sorenson and Avelink. Sheppard went on the move early by passing Scott for the runner-up position just before Terry Casey spun to bring out a caution on lap 4. 

On the restart, Sorenson and Shirley went on the move taking third and fourth respectively behind Timm and Sheppard.

Contact between multiple cars left Gustin with significant damage on lap 6. Sorenson moved by Sheppard to grab second on the restart trailing Timm but another yellow flag would wave to slow the action on lap 7.

Sheppard moved back to second on the lap 7 restart while Scott also moved forward pushing Sorenson back to fourth. Later, Babb and Shirley moved into the top-5 by lap 12.

With 10 laps to go, the top-3 of Timm, Sheppard and Scott ran in tight formation but as the laps clicked away, Timm began to pull away from his pursuers.

Sheppard closed quickly to fight for the lead as the lead duo fought with slower traffic. Sheppard made his move and took the lead just as the cars took the white flag. Timm slid around Sheppard to retake the top spot but then tangled with a lapped car going into turn three and got into the wall.

After the green flag was displayed, Sheppard led the way back to the finish line to collect the win.

Feature Re-cap: Larson took the lead at the start of the 25-lap feature with Dillard, Pierce, Gundaker and Hoffman in his tire tracks. Pierce took the runner-up position away from Dillard on lap 5 just before a lap 6 caution for the spinning car of Walker, 

Just after the restart, Erb climbed into the top-5 as he passed by Gundaker to grab fourth, Hoffman came along to also get around Gundaker for the fifth position.

By lap 12, the top-3 of Larson, Pierce and Dillard ran in tight formation as they worked through slower traffic. The intensity picked up two laps later as those three drivers exchanged positions in a mad rush to lead the pack. Lap 15 contact between Larson and Dillard sent Larson into the backstretch wall causing significant damage,

Both cars would continue on with Dillard now leading while Larson had to go to the tail after stopping on track during the incident.

Dillard jumped out to a lead of several car lengths on the restart as Pierce and Hoffman battled for second. Over the closing laps the No. 97 car was able to maintain the advantage as Dillard sailed under the checkered flag to claim the win.

On the cool down lap, Larson pulled alongside Dillard and let his displeasure over the lap 15 incident.
