Brandon Overton’s Dream victory confirmed after car is deemed legal

Brandon Overton was confirmed as the Double Dream winner

In a somewhat unprecedented move following the second of two Dirt Late Model Dream races held this past week at the Eldora Speedway in Rossburg, Ohio, officials impounded the top-3 finishers for a thorough post-race technical inspection. The procedure was conducted in a large all-purpose building on the speedway’s property under the supervision of World of Outlaws Morton Buildings Late Model Series technical director Kenny Kenneda.

With rumors circulating throughout the Eldora pit area that some competitors were using a form of traction control, the need for a more involved inspection than is typically called for in Dirt Late Model racing was announced during the drivers meeting prior to Friday’s preliminary events leading into the 26th annual Dirt Late Model Dream.

Brandon Overton completed a remarkable sweep of the week by winning both of the Dream races contested at the famed facility as well as both of the preliminary features in which he was entered. All together, his earnings topped out at $273,000 for the four-day span.

According to Kevin Kovac of DirtonDirt.com, the inspection process was completed at approximately 1;00am on Sunday morning and the winning car of Overton as well as those of second and third place finishers Chris Madden and Chris Ferguson were pronounced legal by Kenneda.

As was written earlier on this site, such a process was important in that it confirmed the legality of Overton’s stunning success in the week-long event. Going forward, it is probably not unreasonable to expect more of these types of inspections to take place, at least as the sport’s biggest races.
