Unless you really haven’t been paying attention, you already know that Brandon Overton has had a pretty darn good month of June. The Evans, GA driver recently completed an incredible sweep of the two Dirt Late Dream feature races held at Eldora Speedway along with the two preliminary races he was entered in during that week. In all, the 30-year-old driver earned $273,000 for his efforts at the Rossburg, Ohio track.
But even with all that success already achieved during the sixth month of 2021, Overton and his Wells Motorsports team have made their way to Sarver, Pennsylvania and the Lernerville Speedway in hopes of collecting another $30,000 payday at the end of the Saturday’s Firecracker 100.
Following a less-than-inspiring 11th place finish in Thursday’s preliminary feature race, the No. 76 Longhorn by Wells team recovered nicely on Friday. Overton outran the field by charging from the fifth starting position to cross the finish line first at the end of 30 laps. It was another $6,000 earned for the driver known as ‘Big Sexy’.

Following Friday’s victory, Overton was pleased with his team’s improvement over their Thursday result. But their work may not yet be completed as they prepare for the main event.
“That’s a lot better than we’ve been doing,” the winner told DirtVision.com reporter Hannah Newhouse. “It took us a day here to get it figured out. We may still do some tweaking on it. I’m kind of looking forward to getting on a little harder tire, we’ve kind of got what we got with the five tire limit.”
And the team that has already won 16 features in 2021 could get even better come time for the 100 lapper.
“I think we should be better when we put some hard tires on it but a hundred laps is a long time,” Overton explained. “I’m just happy to be back up here in victory lane. This place means a lot to me because I got my first World of Outlaws win here and I like coming over here.”
The 2017 winner of the Firecracker 100 hopes to continue doing what he has been doing of late.
“I just keep doing my thing, keep racing. I’ve got a great group of people behind me in this deal. Like I said, I’m excited. We’ve been steadily chipping away at it. We’ll just keep on rolling until our luck runs out.”
