When a weekly racer is having a great season there may be action taken in an attempt to stop his progress. In some cases, a bounty(extra payment as a reward) may be placed on him that will be given to any driver who can stop a winning streak.
That is the current situation Super Street driver Brad Davis finds himself in at the Tazewell Speedway. After piling up victories in that division during the early part of the year, a bounty has been placed on him. But that didn’t matter on Friday night as the driver of the No. 88 machine made a late race pass to assure that the bounty would not be collected and will move on to the next event.
David began the 20-lap feature from the third spot on the grid behind front row starters Chris Rickett and Austin Atkins. Rickett went quickly to the lead when the green flag waved over the field at the high-banked clay oval. Davis jumped into the second spot behind Rickett with Atkins, Cody Thompson and Robbie Buchanan close behind.
The battle commenced immediately as Davis began working the low side of the track in an attempt to get by Rickett. However, Atkins took advantage of the fight involving the two lead machines on lap 3 and closed in on Davis to contest the second spot.
A lap 6 caution briefly slowed the action but it also provided Davis with an opportunity to pounce on Rickett when the fast paced racing resumed. Rickett beat back the challenge from Davis after the restart but the No. 88 car would not go away. Meanwhile, Atkins and and fourth running Eddie Stewart were not giving up as they moved in to again challenge Davis for the runner-up position. On lap 10, the second, third and fourth place cars found themselves in a three-wide battle as they came off of turn two and roared down the backstretch.
Davis broke free from that tussle and again dove under Rickett for the race lead on lap 12, but Rickett held on. At the same time, Stewart went to work on Atkins in an attempt to claim the third spot.
With just three laps remaining, Davis was finally able to make his move stick as he moved by Rickett coming off the second turn. From there, the driver with the bounty on his head drove on to the checkered flag to claim another feature ahead of Rickett, Stewart, Buchanan and Gary Blanken.
