Boyd’s Speedway has been sold. According to Riley Hickman, who has helped managed the 1/3-mile track located on the Tennessee-Georgia border, the track has been sold to Brown Brothers Inc, a construction company in the area. According to sources, Brown Brothers were in negotiations to buy part of the track’s property. The announcement came Monday morning that Brown Brothers had purchased the entire property from Emerson Russell. The future of the track looks to be at an end.
Hickman said on Facebook that racing operations for 2023 have been suspended. Several of the Boyd’s dates with various series have already been rescheduled for other tracks.
“I have exhausted all efforts in keeping this place a race track,” Hickman said in a Facebook post. “Thank you to everyone that has came and supported us through the last few seasons. I can’t say enough about the staff we had in place for each event. I consider you all like family and appreciate each one of you. Myself and my family have given our life to this place that I love. A lot of blood sweat and tears have went in to this operation. Hopefully you all understand that I had nothing to do with this decision and realize, I’m more heart broken than anyone.”
Boyd’s imminent closure comes five years after the closure of Cleveland Speedway, which was located 20 miles northeast of Boyd’s. A Boyd’s closure would leave the Chattanooga area with no operating dirt tracks. Russell purchased the facility in 2021 and has operated it the last two seasons.
