Booger Brooks has established himself as one of the top support class drivers in this region. The Chickamauga, Georgia driver has piled up wins at tracks such as Boyd’s Speedway and Cleveland Speedway over the course of his driving career.
In 2014, Brooks proved once again to be dominant at Boyd’s as he earned the track championship in the A-Hobby class. Yet, the winning driver remains humble despite his success.
“This year has gone pretty good,” Brooks said in an interview conducted at the end of this past season. “I’ve got a bunch of people who help me a lot and we work on this thing a ton to stay on top of it. We just try to keep it going and we’ve had a lot of good luck on our side this year. It’s all about the luck, I guess.”
The 26-year-old driver comes from a legacy of success on the track. Racing has long been a part of the Brooks family.
“My granddaddy raced and then my daddy started,” the third generation racer explained. “My daddy raced back in the 90’s then he quit and then started back in 2000. I started in 2004 in Street Stock cars and did pretty good in that and then I moved up to this class and have done well in this.”
Brooks believes the secret to his success is no real secret at all. So why does he win so often?
“I don’t know that there’s a secret to success,” he declared. “I probably just work on my car more than a lot of them in this class. I’ve been racing this class for six years now and I’ve learned a lot about it. I guess we’ve just got a little edge over everybody else.”
Over the years, Brooks has changed his mindset about racing. But that doesn’t mean he isn’t open to trying something new in the future.
“I thought when I was younger that I could make a living at it but that didn’t happen,” Brooks said. “Now, we just do it as a hobby. I raced a Late Model a couple of years ago and won a couple of races. Maybe next year we might try to move up again and see what that leads to.”
