BROWNSTOWN, INDIANA – August 4, 2018 – The MARS Super Late Model Racing Series and the Schaeffer’s Oil Iron-Man Championship Late Model Series presented by DirtonDirt.com would co-sanction the 14th Annual Hall of Fame Classic at Brownstown Speedway on Saturday evening and Billy Moyer, Jr. of Batesville, AR would lead all fifty laps of the event on his way to a $10,000 victory.

The victory for Moyer, Jr. would be his first MARS win of the 2018 season and his second career MARS victory, with the win also making him a first-time winner with the Iron-Man tour. The visit to victory lane for Moyer, Jr. would come aboard his Nutrien Ag Solution, Dyna-Gro Seeds, Mesilla Valley Transportation, Car City, Imperial Motors, Gulley Plumbing, Wehr’s Machine, Accu-Force, FK Rod Ends sponsored #21jr. Longhorn Chassis, Pro Power Race Engines powered entry.

The first two attempts to start the event would result in quick caution flags, as Zak Blackwood drifted over the banking in turn three on the initial start, while Jared Bailey would slide over the turn-three banking on the second attempted start. The third time would prove to be the charm and action would get underway with Billy Moyer, Jr. taking the race lead, followed by Tanner English, Michael Kloos, Tim Manville, and Nick Hoffman. Kent Robinson would challenge Hoffman for fifth and take the spot on lap two, but action would be slowed again one circuit later when John Clippinger’s mount would come to a stop on the frontchute. Back underway, Moyer, Jr. maintained the lead over English and Kloos, while Robinson would snag fourth position from Manville. English and Kloos would battle for the runner-up slot at this point and Kloos would grad second from English on lap five. As Moyer, Jr. slowly increased his advantage up front, Michael Chilton would get going and the trio of Manville, Hoffman, and Chilton would battle for the fifth position, with Chilton making a high-side move on lap nine to go from seventh to fifth on that circuit. The caution would wave once again on lap ten when David Webb would slow with a flat right-rear tire and Webb would proceed to the work area and get the tire changed and return to competition. The restart would see the front-five remain the same, with Robinson challenging English for the third position and taking the spot on lap twelve. By lap fifteen, Moyer, Jr. had built a somewhat comfortable lead and would the process of lapping slower traffic on lap twenty-one.

Chilton and Hoffman had settled into a battle for the fifth position at this point and Hoffman would reclaim the position from Chilton on lap twenty-two. As Moyer, Jr. continued to work slower traffic, English would battle with Robinson for the third position and would finally grab the position on lap thirty-two and would run down Kloos for second and take the runner-up position on lap thirty-five. With Moyer, Jr. carefully attempting to work his way through slower traffic at this point of event, English would begin to reel in the race leader and was closing on Moyer, Jr. as the field saw the five lap to go signal. The final caution of the event would appear one lap later on lap forty-six when fifth-place running Hoffman would spin on the backchute and have to be pushed off the track, done for the event. This would set up a short sprint to the finish, with Moyer, Jr. getting a great restart and driving to the victory, with English taking the second position, while Robinson would slip Kloos on lap forty-seven to claim a third-place finish. Kloos would finish fourth, with Chilton coming home fifth. The remainder of the top ten finishers would be eleventh-place starter Devin Gilpin, Tim Manville, sixteenth-place starter Steve Casebolt, Jason Jameson, and David Webb.
