This Saturday night at the I-75 Raceway near Sweetwater, TN marks the first of two big money races for the Crate Late Model division in the east Tennessee region over the coming next few weeks. The winner this weekend at I-75 will take home $2,000 while those who enter the November 3rd race at Volunteer Speedway in Bulls Gap, TN will compete for a first place payday of $3,000.
I-75 will play host to the 2nd annual Larry Kyle Memorial which will be sanctioned by the United Championship Racing Alliance. John Ownbey won this event last year and will no doubt be vying for two in a row this Saturday night. Kyle Courtney won a qualifier race for this event earlier in the year and will be eligible for a $500 bonus should he take the checkered flag as the winner on the third-mile clay oval.
Another UCRA sanctioned event will highlight the east Tennessee racing calendar on October 27 when the Tazewell Speedway welcomes that series for the $3,000-to-win Topless Spooker 50. The insanely steep banking of the third-mile clay oval will roar to life in the Halloween themed event.
The Crate Late Model Nationals will take place at the high-banked Volunteer Speedway on the first Saturday in November and will offer a handsome payout. This event will serve as somewhat of a sister race to the Steelhead Nationals that has become and east Tennessee staple at the 411 Motor Speedway. Mitch McCarter and his team serve as promoters at both of those facilities. Almost certainly the 4/10 mile clay oval will draw in a solid field of cars for this impressive payout.
It is a good time to be a Crate Late Model racer in this region of the country.
