Back to business as usual for Dirt Late Model racing’s two national tours

After a week of racing during double Dirt Late Model Dream week at Eldora Speedway, the two national touring series are set to swing back into action this weekend. And for most weekends over the summer months that lie ahead, the two series will have conflicting dates which means there will be fewer opportunities for the stars of each tour to come in conflict with each other.

Those who intend to seek a championship on each particular series will be free to take on each other apart from invaders. Prior to this upcoming stretch, the only time the Lucas Oil Late Model Dirt Series and World of Outlaws Morton Buildings Late Model Series schedules have conflicted so far in 2021 was on the weekend of April 30-May 1 which means there have been numerous races with drivers from both involved up to this point.

Those events will be mush more rare over the next several weeks.

Tim McCreadie(39) and Hudson O’Neal(71) are involved in a tight battle for the LOLMDS points lead

The last race sanctioned by the LOLMDS came at the Show-me 100 at the Lucas Oil Speedway on May 29th. This weekend, the competitors on the Lucas Oil Series will head to Mississippi for a triple-header weekend at the Magnolia Motor Speedway in Columbus. The Thursday and Friday shows will pay $5,000-to-win each with Saturday’s finale enriching the winner by $15,000.

After the trip to Columbus, the LOLMDS will take another weekend off then contest a total of 14 races between June 25th and July 24th ending with a pair of huge features at Nebraska’s I-80 Speedway that will pay $30,000 and $53,000 each. There will also be $12,000-to-win and $20,000-to-win contests held at Smoky Mountain Speedway on July 9th and 10th as a part of this busy summer.

Tim McCreadie currently holds a lead of 35 points over Hudson O’Neal in the Lucas standings. Further back, Jonathan Davenport, Josh Richards, and Ricky Thornton Jr. round out the top-5 in points.

Brandon Sheppard leads the WoO Late Models standings heading into summer

The WoO Late Models are about to embark on a schedule that will see them race 24 times between now and September 4th. Within that stretch will come some of Dirt Late Model racing’s biggest events including the $30,000-to-win Firecracker 100 at the Lernerville Speedway in Pennsylvania, the $50,000-to-win Prairie Dirt Classic at the always popular Fairbury American Legion Speedway in Illinois, and the $50,000-to-win USA Nationals at Wisconsin’s Cedar Lake Speedway.

Defending series champion Brandon Sheppard currently leads the WoO standings by 46 points over red hot Chris Madden, with Tyler Bruening, Ricky Weiss, and Cade Dillard trailing a bit further behind.

With the Dirt Late Model Dream now in the rear view mirror, it’s back to business as usual for the Lucas Oil Late Model Dirt Series and the World of Outlaws Morton Buildings Late Model Series. Much will be decided over the next few weeks and months in terms of both the standings and the amount of money won by the competitors on each tour.
