Along with the Iron-Man Late Model Series, the Volunteer Speedway also staged racing for the Crate Late Model division on Saturday afternoon. Anthony White came away from the Bulls Gap, Tenn. track with the victory and the $1,500 prize that accompanied the checkered flag.
White began his day by leading the way in qualifying for the Crate Late Models when he turned a lap in 12.866 seconds around the 4/10 mile clay oval to beat out Gary Crittenden, Trevor Sise, Jason Trammell, Cory Hedgecock, Tim Maupin, Rusty Ballenger, Jesse Lowe, Tim Byrd and Chase Walls. The 21-car starting lineup for the main event was established entirely by the results in time-trials.
White immediately took the lead at the start of the 25-lap feature with Sise, Hedgecock, Crittenden and Byrd in his tire tracks. However, the action would be slowed almost immediately when Lowe suffered a flat tire and brought out a caution as a result.
On the restart, Ballenger worked his way around Trammell to take fifth while Fields would also get by Trammell to assume sixth. Soon after, White began pulling away from the pack as Sise and Hedgecock fought over second about a straightaway behind.
A lap 11 caution set up a restart that would see Hedgecock get shuffled back to fifth with Ballenger and Crittenden moving forward. However, Hedgecock fought back and took fourth away from Crittenden on lap 13 as White continued to lead the way.
Trammell slowed on the track to bring out the final yellow flag of the day. On the restart, White once again got away from his pursuers with Ballenger getting around Sise to claim second. Hedgecock followed suit as he jumped around Sise to take third.
From that point, it would ‘The Dirty White Boy’ who showed the way to the checkered flag as he claimed thie victory ahead of Ballenger, Hedgecock, Sise, and a hard charging Josh Henry who had been forced to start from the tail of the field after loosing a wheel in qualifying.
