As the temperatures begin to fall and racing starts winding down, race track news begins to heat up the racing landscape. Some notes of interest have occured the last couple of weeks.
The item that stood out the most was the release of the 2016 Lucas Oil Late Model Dirt Series. A couple of itmes stood out concerning area tracks.
Boyd’s Speedway has a date with the series. Their event is scheduled to run April 1. But Volunteer Speedway is not on the schedule. The Bristol August race is being moved up one week to allow for additional time to set up the facility for the Tennessee-Virginia Tech football game on Sept. 10. That weekend is the same weekend as the annual Topless 100 in Batesville, Arkansas which is also sanctioned by the LOLMDS. No agreement could be made on another date. Volunteer Speedway officials say the Scorcher will still take place on the Thursday before Bristol.
As reported earlier, Cleveland Speedway has been listed as for sale. The price tag ($1.75 million) may not generate a lot of interest.
Rumors of a sale of Crossville Raceway continue to swirl. A group recently purchased the nearby dragstrip and are believed to be interested in purchasing Crossville Raceway. Some legal items need to be cleared up first.
Tazewell Speedway has named Jeff Treece as race director for the 2016 season. Treece replaces Chris Tilley who served in that role in 2015. The track has also announced the addition of the open wheel modified division for 2016. No rules have been posted yet.
