Quick Six: Quick Tips

quick6

This edition of the Quick Six blog offers some tips on a variety of subjects in dirt racing.

1. The sudden passing of mini stock driver Mike Townsend should be a reminder to everyone to take care of their health first and foremost. People in the racing community don’t lead the healthiest of lives.

2. Race tracks need to look at improving their lighting and adding extra security for their parking areas. Car thieves routinely case these areas looking for vehicles to steal, especially full-size trucks. Thieves were on the prowl this past weekend.

3. With dwindling car counts in the “support” classes, it is time for someone to organize a meeting with area track owners to discuss how the build up these grassroots classes.

4. In this day of the Internet and the explosion of social media, waiting until Monday to post results from Saturday (or even Friday) racing is unacceptable.

5. New photographers that come into the sport have notions of making big money shooting races. In this day of cell phones, that is not the case. Anyone looking to get into it better love the sport more than they are looking to pad their wallet.

6. If Vegas made odds for dirt late model racing, Jonathan Davenport and Scott Bloomquist would be the two heavy favorites for Saturday’s Lucas Oil Late Model Dirt Series race at Smoky Mountain Speedway. Bloomquist dominated last year’s race before cutting a tire late and dominated last month’s World of Outlaws race at SMS. Davenport finished second in last year’s race and is the hottest driver in the country.
