Billy Ogle, Jr. clearly has had things going his way when he has unloaded at the Tazewell Speedway so far in 2015. The Knoxville driver scored the win when the World of Outlaws Late Models visited the high-banked track last month and now he has added a Spring Nationals win to his list of accomplishments at the Gary Hall owned facility.
Ogle picked up $6,000 for the victory that actually was made possible by the misfortune of his car owner and teammate.
Donald McIntosh set the early pace for the night when he posted the fastest lap in qualifying for the Ray Cook-promoted series with a time of 11.178 seconds. Also earning spots in the dash race that would determine the starting order for the first two rows of the feature were Vic Hill, Ogle and Stacy Boles.
Boles secured the pole for the main event after he won the dash race ahead of Ogle, Hill and McIntosh.
Chris Madden and David Payne won the two heat races used to fill in the remainder of the starting lineup for the feature.
Boles took the early lead in the 50-lap feature once the green flag waved with Ogle, Hill, Madden, David Payne and Brian Smith in his tire tracks. The top-5 cars strung out briefly, but were brought back together again when the front runners caught the tail of the field within a few short laps.
However, disaster struck Boles on the tenth lap when his race leading machine slowed suddenly and pulled off the track. A caution waved just after Boles rolled into the pit area.
Once the action resumed, Ogle took command as he built a lead of several car lengths. Meanwhile, Madden was seeking to improve his position as he pulled to the rear spoiler of Hill and began to apply the pressure.
Ogle built a seemingly comfortable advantage as the battles waged behind him. Following several laps of working both the high and low grooves of the racing surface, Madden was finally able to get by Hill for the runner-up spot on lap 32 and set about the task of chasing down the lead car.
With no yellow flags waving after that of lap 11, the leaders once again found themselves among slower car. Madden closed on Ogle as the laps dwindled. The No. 44 machine cut the lead down to just a couple of car lengths after once trailing by almost the length of a straightaway. However, Ogle proved to be elusive and went on to take the checkered flag.
