Blount Motorsports is one of the more successful regional teams in all of Dirt Late Model racing. Drivers such as Tommy Kerr and Billy Ogle, Jr. have scored major wins for the Maryville, Tenn. based organization and owner Larry Garner. Now the name of Donald McIntosh can be added to the list of those who have contributed to the BMS trophy case.
The young Georgia driver scored his first win with the team since taking the seat back in September when he took the checkered flag in the $5,000-to-win ‘The Gobbler’ at Boyd’s Speedway on Saturday evening.
Dylan Ames began the racing action on the Ringgold, GA track by setting the fast time in qualifying as he posted a lap of 13.111 seconds around the third-mile facility. The top-6 from time-trials were locked into the feature which placed McIntosh, Shane Clanton, Mike Marlar, Derek Ellis and Cory Hedgecock on the first three rows of the starting grid for the main event.
Kent Robinson and Riley Hickman each won B-main races that were used to establish the remainder of the starting lineup for the feature.
McIntosh wasted no time establishing himself as the man to beat once the green flag waved to begin the 50-lap feature race. He used his outside front row starting spot to bolt to the early lead with Ames, Clanton and Marlar in tow.
The race was slowed by caution flags on three occasions, which is the only thing that kept McIntosh within sight of the competition. Each time the race would go back to green, the #7 car would drive away from the pack and build a comfortable lead.
However, there was more intense action behind the leader. Ames, Clanton and Marlar found themselves involved in a tight battle for positions 2, 3 and 4 for most of the way. At the same time, Hickman began working his way forward out of his 8th starting spot.
The final caution of the night came on lap 35. Over the course of the final 15 laps, McIntosh was again able to power away from the field as they attempted to keep pace. At the finish, it was Donald McIntosh winning over Shane Clanton, Dylan Ames, Riley Hickman, Mike Marlar, Vic Hill, Kent Robinson, Billy Ogle, Jr., Nick Latham and Aaron Ridley.
