Engine builder Scott Pass is set to acquire the Topless Outlaws Dirt Late Model Series from founder Michael Robinette. The two confirmed the move on the PPM Products Winners Circle Podcast.
Founded in 2019 by Robinette, a former racer, the series was created to give steel head late models a chance to race more often and for more money in and around East Tennessee. Robinette said on the podcast the time was right to make a change.
“I’ve taken a different job where I’ll be working six and seven days a week for the next five years,” Robinette stated on the podcast. “The plan is to make this as smooth a transition as possible, and I’ll help with the schedule, and be at some of the races and helping out when I can.”
Pass, who is an engine builder with B&B Race Engines, is looking forward to keeping things similar while growing the series.
“I’m happy to be doing this, Pass said on the podcast. “The main thing, I left like, is to ‘keep it in the family’ because we didn’t want any major changes. You get outside the family and you may never know what you’re going to get. The goal is to keep it going, improve it, keep the tracks happy, keep the drivers happy and put on a good show for the fans. Because without fans in the stands, racetrack owners aren’t very happy.”
Pass said on the podcast he is already working on the 2025 schedule.
“They’ll be some things coming out about scheduling things,” Pass said. “We’re already working on the schedule for next year, just trying to get ahead of the game, and one that looks pretty promising that looks pretty exciting.”
Pass indicated there will be no changes to the engine rules and isn’t planning on any changes to the tire rule barring a change in the industry.
Robinette’s final race as owner of the Topless Outlaws will be October 26 at Senoia Raceway. There will be an awards banquet with a time and place to be announced.
