Sweet then moved in on Haudenschild and took second away. Macedo and Gravel then followed suit as both got by Haudenschild to move into third and fourth respectively on lap 8. Sweet issued a challenge on Abreu for the race lead as the two worked among slower traffic.
On lap 12, Gravel got by Macedo to grab third. Two laps later, the No. 2 machine swept by both Abreu and Sweet to assume the race lead. At the back of the top-5 Scelzi, Haudenschild and Courtney were engaged in a battle.
Macedo briefly got around Abreu and Sweet to move to second but Abreu would regain that position two laps later. In the end, Gravel held back a late charge by Abreu to score his sixth career win at Charlotte.
