The Gobbler, a traditional late season race usually held at the Cleveland Speedway each year near the end of November will be staged as a two night event in 2014 with racing split between two tracks. The newly reopened Cleveland(TN) Speedway will host the Friday night portion on November 21st with Boyd’s Speedway in Ringgold, GA running Saturday night’s show on November 22nd.
Southern All Stars Dirt Racing Series officials released news of the plan during Saturday night’s race at the Smoky Mountain Speedway. That body will sanction both events which will each pay $5,000-to-win.
Cleveland Speedway had been the long time host of the traditional year ending race. However, uncertainty over that track’s future as its fate was being decided in bankruptcy court forced series and track officials to move the race to Boyd’s.
With Cleveland having successfully reopened this past Friday, the way was cleared for the expansion to be announced. SAS official Lynn Acklin confirmed the change.
