Chris Ferguson wins Family Feud in Lucas Oil Group A feature at SMS

Chris Ferguson held off cousin Carson Ferguson for the win

Chris Ferguson had to hold back a determined charge by cousin Carson Ferguson throughout much of the Lucas Oil Late Model Dirt Series Group A feature on Friday night at Smoky Mountain Speedway. This and the Group B feature served as preliminaries for Saturday night’s $50,000-to-win Mountain Moonshine Classic at the same track.

The driver from Mt Holly, NC earned $5,000 for his win on the track located in Maryville, Tennessee.

A total of 44 cars were signed in for competition

Feature Re-cap: The 30-lap feature took the green flag with Chris Ferguson leading Carson Ferguson, Davenport, Roland and Landrum. After a couple of attempts by Carson to pass Chris a lap 5 caution for the slowing car of Drown slowed the action on the lightning fast track. On the restart, Moran bolted to fifth with Owens coming up to sixth. 

By lap 8, the top-3 of Chris Ferguson, Carson Ferguson and Davenport began to separate from the pack. Slower traffic became a factor on lap 12. Roland slowed on lap 18 to bring out a yellow flag.

Soon after the restart, a multi-car incident that resulted in a flip by Landrum that ended with the No. 18 coming to rest on its top. Landrum was reported to be okay.

When the race restarted, Chris Ferguson kept Carson Ferguson and Davenport behind him as eventually sailed under the checkered flag for the win.
