Blount Motorsports and Billy Ogle Jr. have parted ways. The news was confirmed by crew chief David “Fatboy” Bryant Tuesday morning. The news comes following a disappointing weekend at Eldora Speedway last week at the World 100.
BMS and Ogle joined forces in late 2009 when Ogle drove a second BMS car at The Gobbler at Cleveland Speedway. The pair won nearly two dozen races during their time together highlighted by the win in The Scorcher, a Lucas Oil Late Model Dirt Series race at Volunteer Speedway in 2012. Ogle also won the 2011 Southern All-Stars championship and the 2014 Spring Nationals title while driving for the Maryville, Tennessee based team.
Despite the Spring Nationals win, the 2014 season has been a tough season for Ogle and BMS. The team only mustered three wins. Engine woes plagued the team most of the season, especially during the Schaeffer Oil Southern Nationals.
“It’s been a bad year,” explained Bryant. “We had so much trouble with motors most of the year we didn’t have time to work on setups. Once we get that straightened out, we were behind everybody else, the performance wasn’t there. That’s nobody’s fault.”
“We went to Eldora and all of us got frustrated. We got up Saturday morning, we were all grump, and decided to come home. We knew it was time for both of us to part ways and try something else.”
“I can’t say anything but good things about Billy. It’s been a good run together and he did real good for us. He was missing so much time from work while we raced it was getting hard on him.”
The team is looking for a replacement driver. No word on Ogle’s immediate plans.
The Blount Motorsports team will have Tommy Kerr behind the wheel on his #4T next Saturday at Smoky Mountain Speedway for the Southern All-Stars event.
