The Crate Late Model division played a part in the “Shootout @ Tennessee’s Action Track” as part of an event that feature the Topless Outlaws Late Model Series. Knoxville racer Trevor Sise drove to a dominating victory but will have to wait for the results to be made official after a protest was lodged against his car. The question of the No. 73 engine’s legality will be answered after the power plant is examined by a certified engine builder.
Sise led the way in qualifying after he posted a lap of 14.475 seconds around the 3/8 mile clay oval to beat out Greg Martin, Michael Courtney, Zach Sise, Rusty Webb, Rusty Ballenger, Colton Profit, Ross White, Terry Poore and Michael Smith.
At the start of the 25-lap feature it was Trevor Sise who went to the early lead ahead of Martin, Zach Sise, Courtney and Webb. Following a lap 1 restart Courtney battled Zach Sise for third while Webb and Ballenger and Webb fought over the fifth position.
Ballenger nabbed fifth on lap 4 when he passed by Webb.
A pair of yellow flags would wave on laps 6 and 7 for minor spins to bunch the field. From that point, the race would run without a yellow flag.
Trevor Sise proved dominant over the remainder of the event while the likes of a fast rising Jesse Lowe, Courtney, Ballenger and Martin would be among the drivers swapping positions near the front of the field. Eventually the No. 73 car would take the checkered flag before having the protest lodged against it.
