Kyle Hardy entered the 2018 Ultimate Super Late Model Series season finale at Screven Motor Speedway in Sylvania, GA with a slim lead over Zack Mitchell in the series standings. Brandon Overton collected the win in the $5,000 feature race but Mitchell’s third place effort combined with Hardy’s fifth place result landed those two drivers in a dead heat for championship honors.
The fact that Mitchell had scored more wins over the course of the season than did Hardy broke the tie in favor of the Enoree, SC racer. Mitchell won two Ultimate main events(Laurens & Lancaster) while Hardy did not tally a series victory.
Mitchell used remarkable consistency throughout the campaign to put himself in position to earn the series title. Not only did he take the two checkered flags mentioned above but he also brought home 12 top-10 finishes in the 14 races that were contested during this weather-plagued Ultimate Super Late Model Series season.
This is the second consecutive year in which the No. 57 team has won a season-long championship. Mitchell was crowned as the 2017 Carolina Clash champion as well.
Mitchell pocketed $20,000 in claiming the title.
