Ricky Arms took the lead on lap 8 and drove to victory
Along with the Southern Nationals Bonus Series/Iron-Man Series co-sanctioned race for Super Late Model cars, Tazewell Speedway also hosted racing action in the Brucebilt Iron-Man Modified Series on Tuesday night. Ricky Arms came away as the winner after a hard fought feature that paid $1,000-to-win.
Chase King led the way in qualifying for the division when he turned a lap of 12.654 seconds around the third-mile clay oval. Shon Flannary, Arms, Jeremy Payne and Clayton Miller rounded out the top-5 among the 14 entrants from time-trials.
At the start of the 20-lap feature it was King who shot to the early lead with Flannary, Arms and Payne running in his wake. Flannary and Payne exchanged a series of slide jobs as they battled for the runner-up spot during laps two and three.
Flannary then fell back into the clutches of Arms who took third away on lap three. Flannary then slowed on the track to bring out the features only caution flag.
Arms moved by Payne to seize the second position on lap four as King slipped away from the pack. Miller then moved in on Payne as those two competitors fought over the third spot.
By lap eight, Arms had closed the gap on King and began to apply pressure on King as he worked on taking the lead. The No. 4 machine then swept around the No. 44 to take over leadership of the race.
Ricky Arms pulled away from his pursuers over the second half of the race as he drove on to the victory ahead of Chase King, Clayton Miller, Shane Roberts and Amos Bunch.
