This edition of the Quick Six blog looks at some of items making news in June in the world of dirt racing. The Dream, the World of Outlaws, and super teams are on the agenda.
- Scott Bloomquist continues to be the straw that stirs the drink in dirt late model racing. His win in The Dream and the mystery surrounding his drug trust and injury is proof of that.
- A person that works in the racing industry should not make public remarks about another driver’s health or personal situation. It’s not a good look and a good way to lose business.
- The jury is still out on whether east Tennessee race fans are supportive of the World of Outlaws Craftsman Late Model Series. The race at 411 was dampened with a rainy forecast and Volunteer got a big boost from Jimmy Owens being in the race. We’ll have to wait another year for a decision.
- Race tracks that do little to no promoting should not be questioning why they cannot draw good crowds for their races. Hint: it’s not social media’s fault.
- One of the negatives of building a so-called “super team” is other drivers running the same chassis may not feel they’re getting the same support as the super team if the results aren’t the same. The result is drivers jump ship to another chassis. We may be seeing some of that now.
- Weather has been such a problem this year even Eldora could not avoid it. Lucky for them, they were able to get in all three nights of racing even if one was during the afternoon and another was well after midnight.
