Jason Trammell trumps the Kings at Volunteer Speedway

Jason Trammell celebrates his Volunteer win with friends and crew members

If racing were a card game, Jason Trammell might have been in trouble on Saturday night at Volunteer Speedway. Fortunately for the driver of the No. 90J car, racing does not work like a card game so the three Kings lined up behind him did not have the better hand when the checkered flag waved to end the Limited Late Model feature at the Bulls Gap, Tenn. track.

Trammell dominated the $1,500-to-win main event as he beat out Ryan King, Eddie King, Jr. and Chase King to earn a dominating victory.

Pierce McCarter began the night by setting fast time with a lap of 13.021 seconds around the 4/10 mile clay oval to beat out the 22 cars and drivers that had been signed in for competition. Trammell, Chase King, Ryan King, Trevor Sise, Eddie King, Jr., John Tweed, John Lewellyn, Jason Cardwell and Bobby Mays rounded out the top-10 in time-trials.

At the start of the 40-lap feature it was Trammell who bolted from his outside front row starting spot to take the early lead with Ryan King, Chase King, McCarter and Eddie King, Jr. trailing. Ryan King made a bold move as he went through the middle of a three-wide sandwich in turns 3&4 to pass by McCarter and almost get around Trammell.

The first of multiple cautions came out just after the completion of the first circuit which provided an opportunity for Chase King, who entered the night trailing Cardwell by just three points in the lead in the Limited Late Model standings at the track, to move into the runner-up spot. Chase King employed a lower line around the track in the early going than did most of the other competitors as he attempted to keep pace with Trammell while keeping everyone else behind him.

Another yellow flag on lap 12 for an incident involving Tweed gave Ryan King a chance to reassume second, which he did by sweeping past Chase King. McCarter quickly followed suit as he too moved around Chase King to grab third just two laps later.

Trammell broke away from his followers by almost a full straightaway on lap 17 while Eddie King, Jr., Chase King and McCarter fought three-wide for third place.

The race’s second half saw fewer cautions which allowed Trammell to build a relatively comfortable advantage with Ryan King serving as his closest pursuer. In the meantime, Eddie King, Jr., Chase King, McCarter and Trammell staged quite a battle for the 3rd through 6th positions in the running order.

In the end, it was Jason Trammell who came away with the win ahead of Ryan King, Eddie King, Jr., Chase King, Pierce McCarter, Jason Cardwell, Trevor Sise, Layne Clifton, Greg Estes and Ruben Mayfield.

*In post-race it was determined that Ryan King had made inappropriate use of two-way communication and was disqualified from his second place result.
