Live Updates: Iron-Man Classic at Smoky Mountain(6-3-17)

InsideDirtRacing.com will be providing live updates from the Iron-Man Challenge Super Late Models and Modifieds races from the Smoky Mountain Speedway in Maryville, TN on Saturday night, June 3, 2017. Tonight’s updates are being provided by Richard Allen( @RichardAllenIDR on Twitter).

Classes in action: Iron-Man Challenge Super Late Models for $5,000-to-win, Iron-Man Challenge Modifieds for $1500-to-win and Sportsman for $1,000-to-win.

*These updates will primarily focus on the Super Late Models and Modifieds. Other updates may be limited in favor of obtaining photos and/or stories. 

General Information: The drivers meeting is set for 6:30pm.

Weather is expected to be very warm.

Carder Miller currently leads the Iron-Man Super Late Model Series standings over David Payne, Ray Cook, Levi Ashby and Craig Greeg.

Brad Hall currently leads the Iron-Man Modified standings over Clayton Miller, Shon Flanary, Jimmy Lennex and Ray Bollinger.

7:00- Cars being called to the track for hot laps.

7:15- Hot laps about to begin for all classes.

9:50- Four wide!

9:52- Green flag!

Lap 1 caution for Greer. Hill to the early lead with Weiss, Marlar, Kerr and Buckingham following. Marlar had passed Weiss for second but the caution negated the move.

Lap 13 caution for spin. Hill was among a big pack of slower cars and got into the back of one of them who then bounced into another. Hill continues on and leads Marlar, Weiss, Kerr, Buckingham, Combs, McIntosh, Arp. Marlar was right on Hill at the time of caution.

Huge jam up at the front of the field on restart causes big wreck. Buckingham got spun into the inside wall. Miller, Winkle, B Ogle, Arnold among those collected.

Lap 13 running order is now Hill, Marlar, Weiss, Kerr, Combs, McIntosh, Arp.

Lap 17 caution. Weiss got around Marlar for second on the last restart but Marlar took it back a half-lap later. Hill still leads.

Previous caution was for flat on Weiss.

Lap 29 caution for second running Marlar stopped on track. Hill and Marlar had over a straightaway lead over third place battle among Arp, Combs, Kerr and McIntosh.

Lap 34 caution as Hill, who had a commanding lead, slams the turn one wall. Kerr now leads Are, Knuckles​, Weiss, McIntosh, Combs, B Ogle. Hill appears to be ok.

That was a crazy race.

Iron-Man Modifieds

Flanary was dominant in a feature that ran caution free.
