The Southern Regional Racing series has decided to end operations as a dirt late model sanctioning body. The SRRS has conducted races for eight season throughout the southeast, with many events held in east Tennessee.
In 2013, Josh Putnam was the series champion as he just beat out Maryville’s Jason Welshan for the title. Seymour’s Ryan King earned ‘Rookie of the Year’ honors for the sanctioning body.
In a statement, the SRRS offered its reasoning for the move:

“After much thought and consideration, the Southern Regional Racing Series has decided that we will no longer be sanctioning any races. We will not have any races this season. We would like to thank all of the drivers for the past eight years who have ran series events around the south. We would also like to thank all of the tracks that made the decision to sanction with the SRRS over the past years. We have enjoyed all of the racetracks and racing that we have witnessed. We would also like to thank the fans for attending SRRS events for the past eight seasons.
Our family has thoroughly enjoyed all of the racing that we have put on throughout the years. We have made many new friends that are now considered family. Our family has been in dirt track racing since 1980. We have decided that we would like to pursue other interest. If we were not putting on a race, we were at a race. The series became a full time job. We will continue to go to events as spectators. See you there!”
