The roller coaster ride that is the Cleveland Speedway appears to be on the upswing again. After previously scheduled races set to be run on the third-mile track were removed from the schedules of various series during the off-season, it looked as if the historic Cleveland, Tennessee racing facility would close its gates during the 2016 racing season. However, a recent post on the track’s Facebook page has offered hope to fans of the facility located in the southeastern corner of the state.
According to the posting, Mike and Theresa Simmons will open the track in the upcoming year with the addition that more details are coming soon. The post indicates that track rules and a schedule will be revealed soon but it does indicate that the new managers plan to race on Saturday night’s. It is likely that classes to be raced regularly in 2016 as well as any special events to be hosted in Cleveland will be announced at that time.
Last season the track held racing in the Crate Late Model, Limited Late Model, A-Hobby, B-Hobby and Road Warrior classes.
Theresa Simmons stated via Facebook direct message that, “We are getting things together now. Working on scheduling, insurance etc. We will announce our schedule as soon as we can.”
Here is the Facebook post:
The track hosted competition throughout 2015, ending with its traditional Southern Nationals Bonus Series sanctioned ‘Gobbler’ Super Late Model event won by South Carolina’s Chris Madden who collected $10,000-to-win the 77-lap contest.
