Racing season has started, for the professional racers anyway. There has been no shortage of stories in the early season. We take a look at some interesting tidbits.
- The creation of Lucas Oil TV is one of the greatest things for fans since the inception of Dirt on Dirt. With so many things being on demand or available via immediate online service, it shows the people with Lucas Oil are ahead of the curve with this service.
- The recent decision by the EPA to target aftermarket parts to make street cars into race cars will have a trickle down effect into circle track racing. While it is getting harder each year to take a street car and turn it into a race car, this makes it certain that every class of race car will be a purpose-built car and could drive up the cost of racing for entry level forms of racing.
- It is great to see Crossville Speedway (yes, that is the new name) under new ownership, back to Friday nights, and hosting super late model events. Let’s hope the drivers and fans will support it.
- When will series and sanctioning bodies address the cost of racing engines if they are truly interested in keeping down costs in dirt late model racing?
- The move by the Lucas Oil Late Model Dirt Series to increase purses for Saturday races to $12,000 to win is a long-needed move. Let’s hope World of Outlaws will soon follow suit and Friday races will also see purse bumps.
- The recent announcement of the Gateway Nationals, a racing weekend at the Edward Jones Dome in St. Louis, had already received lots of attention. This event has the makings of either being a big boom or a big bust.
