Just weeks after parting ways with Billy Ogle, Jr., the search for a driver with the Larry Garner owned Blount Motorsports team continues. This weekend, Alabama native William Thomas took a turn behind the wheel in one of the BMS Rocket Chassis cars.

BMS took both of their cars to the Alabama State Championship at the East Alabama Motor Speedway. Donald McIntosh followed up his initial outing for the team one week earlier in a Southern All Stars sanctioned event at Smoky Mountain Speedway while Thomas was making his first starts for the Maryville, Tenn. based operation.

The Southern All Stars also sanctioned these races at the Phenix City, Ala. track. The weekend consisted of a pair of $4,000-to-win features with the first on Saturday night and the second on Sunday evening.

Thomas drove the #4T car typically piloted by longtime BMS campaigner Tommy Kerr while McIntosh drove a #7 machine that had once borne Ogle’s #201. Thomas finished 11th in Saturday’s feature and 8th in the Sunday main event while McIntosh placed 12th and 23rd respectively.

BMS crew chief David Bryant said via text message that he anticipates having only McIntosh driving this weekend for the team. They plan to participate in the Southern Nationals Bonus race at North Carolina’s Tri-County Race Track on Friday night then two Lucas Oil Late Model Dirt Series events in Georgia at Dixie Speedway and Rome Speedway on Saturday and Sunday.

Dixie and Rome are considered home tracks for McIntosh, who hails from Georgia.

Garner said last week in a team press release that his organization is not necessarily in a hurry to hire Ogle’s replacement and may very well consider several options before naming a permanent driver. BMS plans to continue having Kerr drive on a part-time basis, as he has for the past two seasons.
