East Tennessee driver and longtime Dirt Late Model standout Vic Hill is set to debut a new Longhorn Chassis in the very near future according to crew member Shawn Gage. The car is being readied in the team’s shop and it is hoped that it can be raced as soon as this Saturday night when the Carolina Clash Series is scheduled to compete on Hill’s home track, the Volunteer Speedway in Bulls Gap.

Hill has for the past several years campaigned in Warrior Race Cars but has decided to make the move in view of recent success by Longhorn drivers such as Randy Weaver, Jonathan Davenport and Casey Roberts among others.

Longhorn Chassis is owned and operated by former NASCAR champions Bobby and Terry Labonte with much of the engineering and design for the cars done by Kevin Rumley, co-owner of Davenport’s ride.

“They are by far the nicest and most engineered race car,” Gage said via text message. “I’m pretty excited to see what it brings. It pretty much came bare frame, brake lines and cockpit. We started on it last Monday.”

As recently as 2012, Hill was dominant on east Tennessee tracks. At one time that season the Mosheim, Tenn. resident scored multiple victories at Smoky Mountain Speedway. During that stretch he routinely set fast time and led every lap on his way to his wins in Southern All Stars and Ultimate Super Late Model Series features. However, results such as those have gone away and the five-time Volunteer Speedway track champion felt the need for a change.
