Tarheel 50 to pay out $10,000-to-win in 2018

With the cars lined up and ready to start the 2017 version of the Tarheel 50 at the Tri-County Race Track in Brasstown, NC, track promoter and owner Ray Cook took to the microphone to make a special announcement. The 2018 version of this same race will pay out $10,000 to its eventual winner, making it the biggest race ever staged at the facility located in the southwest corner of North Carolina. The race will fall under Cook’s Southern Nationals promotional umbrella.

The 2017 Tarheel 50 was sanctioned buy the Southern Nationals Bonus Series and doled out $4,053 to winner Shawn Chastain. Next year’s payout bump will more than double that total.

Ray Cook

“We’ve been wanting to do something big here and we’ve got some people who want to help us,” Cook proclaimed to the grandstands filled to near capacity. “We need to add a few bleachers and we’ve got a lot of other work to do between now and then.”

The race scheduled to run on Friday night, September 28th of next year. The event will run as a one-day show.
