Racing season set to go into full swing this weekend

There may be snow in the weather forecast for east Tennessee this weekend but that doesn’t mean racing engines won’t be heating things up in other parts of the country over the next few days. And much of that racing action will include a number of teams and/or drivers based here in this region.

Last weekend provided a great beginning to the 2017 season(I know it was actually on the last day of 2016 but The Hangover is a traditional New Year’s Day affair most of the time) which made the 411 Motor Speedway and east Tennessee the center of the racing universe for a couple of days. But now, the Talladega Short Track in Eastabooga, AL is set to join the fray with its annual ‘Ice Bowl’ event on Saturday and Sunday with cold temperatures and hot racing action likely to be on the agenda.

There are always a number of folks from this area who venture down to the facility located near the giant Talladega Super Speedway NASCAR track and this year promises to be no different as racing will take place in just about every class imaginable with good payouts across the board. Hopefully the weather will give the often aptly named race a break this weekend.

A bit further away from home, the Wild West Shootout will take place for the 11th consecutive year. For the 2017 version of these races which span from January 7th through January 15th, the venue has changed to the Arizona Speedway located near Phoenix. If you like to enjoy your racing action from the climate controlled environment of your living room, our friends at DirtonDirt.com will be offering pay-per-view broadcasts of those races.

At least a few ties to our area will be a part of the Wild West Shootout. In an interview conducted last week with InsideDirtRacing.com, Winfield, Tenn. racer Mike Marlar indicated that his Ronnie Delk-owned team will make the long haul to the desert southwest with their new Black Diamond Race Car in an attempt to capture checkered flags, trophies, and payouts. Also, Brandon Overton, who will drive a Longhorn Chassis prepared by Randy Weaver and his crew out of Crossville, Tenn. throughout most of the 2017 season, will take part in the Arizona races driving a Vic Hill Racing Engines powered Billy Moyer Victory Race Car for Minnesota driver Don Shaw.

And if those events are too far from home for you, there is more dirt racing action on the horizon for this area. The annual ‘Cabin Fever’ race will be held on the third-mile Boyd’s Speedway on January 28th with multiple classes taking part. Further, information for the ‘Frostbuster’ at 411 Motor Speedway have just been announced as well. That race is set to go on February 25th. Read details for the ‘Frostbuster’ here –> Frostbuster at 411 Motor Speedway
