Quick Six: The end of another season

Another racing season has come and gone. In this edition of the Quick Six blog, we take a look at the past season and some recent news in dirt racing.

  1. Overall, the 2016 season was a success for most of our area’s tracks. The lone exception is Cleveland Speedway whose fate is still unknown.
  2. The news that Josh Richards and Brandon Sheppard basically traded rides sent some shockwaves through dirt late model racing. It will be interesting to see how 2017 plays out for both drivers and teams.
  3. Some of the regional series are trying to revive the 2-day, $10,000 to win shows. Fans have given a lukewarm response, at best, to these shows.
  4. It was sad news to hear about the retirement of Randy Weaver from driving. But he is smart enough to know health is more important than racing.
  5. Warrior made a great by move by tabbing Ryan King as their driver again for 2017. The team came together nicely this season and King has steadily improved this season.
  6. Prayers go out to 411 Motor Speedway owners, Mitch and Tanya McCarter. Their lumber company was damaged by the Gatlinburg fires last week. They plan to rebuild and that work is not expected to interfere with the operations of 411.
