Quick Six: Summer months headlines

In this edition of the Quick Six blog, we take a look at some recent news and events as the summer months officially get under way.

  1. A motivated Scott Bloomquist is bad news for the competition. His motivation following the last years’ tire gate and scales issue from 2 years ago should have sent notice to everyone he was coming for the track’s $100,000 in this year’s Dream at Eldora.
  2. FASTRAK’s consideration of dropping the rebuild opportunities for their crate engine program could be a move in the right direction for that level of racing. Rebuilds for crate motors have gotten way out of hand.
  3. Today is considered the information age, yet many tracks and series are lagging way behind in getting out information about their events, pre-race and post-race.
  4. I would like to see the claim rule come back in some of the lower divisions of racing in this area. It provided great entertainment when drivers would swap motors or whole cars and see the driver winning all of the time beat the other driver with his own equipment.
  5. One way to run off fans is to have inexcusable down time waiting on classes to line up. Close the gate. Drivers won’t be late next time.
  6. It was good to see local drivers such as Derik Duggan and Chuck McMahan have good showings against good teams in the KMSA race at Smoky Mountain Speedway.
