Quick Six: Pre-season observations

The first edition of the Quick Six blog of 2017 has some pre-season observations ahead of the start of the season.

  1. There is a trend where the payout for select super late model races are going downward. There are quite a few $3,000 and $3,500 to win races popping up, some are replacing $4,000 and $5,000 to win races.
  2. The same can be said for the 2-day, $10,000 to win races. Those are on the increase. Racers and fans wind up paying more money for less racing.
  3. Golden Isle Speedway deserves a big pat on the back for making their upcoming Lucas Oil Late Model Dirt Series races affordable for the fans. General admission tickets are $10 and $15 for each night respectively.
  4. It was good to see a couple of area racers pick up wins in the Ice Bowl support races. Ruben Mayfield won the limited late model race and Brandon Williams won the crate late model race.
  5. Some confusion was caused when some in the racing media referred to support race winners at the Ice Bowl as winners of the Ice Bowl. This caused some people to think those drivers won the main event, the super late model race.
  6. One item that has not received much attention is the MARS DirtCar Series scheduling races at Crossville Speedway in 2017. It will be interesting to see how those races fare.
