Morgan Turpen enjoying dominating Sprint Car season

Morgan Turpen

Morgan Turpen is no stranger to success in a Sprint Car. As a matter of fact, the 24-year-old racer is the two-time and defending United Sprint Car Series champion with numerous feature wins in her past. But even with the success she has experienced, 2017 has gotten off to an unprecedented start.

“I don’t think a year has ever started out this good,” Turpen said in an interview with InsideDirtRacing.com. “I made up my mind over the winter that I was going to try to win as many races as possible. Not that that isn’t what I’ve always wanted to do but not having to worry about points and tearing up cars then just coming out here and trying to win every night is what we’ve been doing.”

After winning more than half of all the USCS races held so far this season, Turpen is riding a wave of confidence. And the resident of Cordova, Tenn. is hoping that her race wins and that confidence will serve to benefit her team as the season plays out.

“Just to know that you can go out there every time you’re on the track and contend for the win is pretty extraordinary, especially with us searching for sponsors right now,” Turpen declared. “To do this well gives someone a chance to get your name out there right now because we’ve been in victory lane quite a bit lately.”

If she keeps winning at her current pace, Turpen could easily find herself exceeding her own expectations for the current campaign.

“I told my boss at the beginning of the year that I’d like to win eight or so this season,” she recalled. “Just talking realistically, eight seemed pretty good. But here I am eight races into the year and I’ve won four of them. Hopefully we’ll do even better than we first thought.”

Her win at Smoky Mountain Speedway in Maryville, Tenn. just over a week ago actually ran her record to five wins in nine starts so far in 2017.

Turpen’s No. 10m Sprint Car

So where does the teacher of 10th grade English at west Tennessee’s Germantown High School want this run of good fortune to lead?

“Like everybody, I’d like to be in a stock car,” she explained. “But I don’t know, ten years down the road I still want to be in racing. I don’t necessarily want to get married, I don’t necessarily want to have kids. This is where my heart’s at so that’s all I’m looking at right now. This is what has my time besides teaching school, this is what I want to do with my life.”
