Live Updates: Southern All Stars at Smoky Mountain(4-29-17)

InsideDirtRacing.com will be providing live updates from the Southern All Stars and United Sprint Car Series races from the Smoky Mountain Speedway in Maryville, TN on Saturday night, April 29, 2017. Tonight’s updates are being provided by Richard Allen( @RichardAllenIDR on Twitter).

*These updates will primarily focus on the Southern All Stars. Other updates may be limited in favor of obtaining photos and/or stories. 

General Information: Drivers meeting is set to begin at 6:00pm.

Weather is expected to be warm and dry.

7:00- Taking a little extra time for track prep.

7:15- Hot laps about to begin.

8:20- Hot laps complete. Qualifying about to begin.

Heat Race Results: There will be four heat races with the top-4 from each transferring to the feature.

Heat 1 Finish- 1. Clanton, 2. Wells, 3. Weiss, 4. Arp … McIntosh, Coulter

*Clanton led all the way. Wells was 5th after lap 1 but charged up to second.

Heat 2 Finish- 1. Jameson, 2. McCreadie, 3. Buckingham, 4. Hardy … Moses, Shirley

*McCreadie used a slide job in turn 2 on lap 2 to​ take the lead from Jameson but a caution negated the move. Jameson just edged McCreadie in a side-by-side finish.

Heat 3 Finish- 1. Sheppard, 2. Madden, 3. Marlar, 4. Page … Hill, Chilton

*Crabtree and Chilton tangled on the initial start. Sheppard led all the way but the real battle was for the final transfer spot.

Heat 4 Finish- 1. Shirley, 2. Erb, 3. Overton, 4. Owens … Reaid, Horton

Shirley took the lead on the start. McDowell slowed suddenly on lap 2 and pulled off. Best battle was between Owens and Reaid for the final transfer spot.

B-main Results: There will be two B-mains with the top-3 from each transferring to the feature.

11:28- Green flag!

Halfway- Caution free. Clanton took early lead but Sheppard passed him on lap 15. Madden now second and closing on Sheppard.

Race ran caution free. Madden closed on Sheppard briefly but slower traffic was the key as Sheppard was able to keep lapped cars between himself and Madden.
